Abstract
The business of breeding cattle and turning offspring into a saleable meat product in the pastoral areas relies on the native pasture resource. This resource is subject to some severe fluctuations in quantity and nutritional value, seasonally within each year and over longer terms with large variation between years. It is the role of the manager to anticipate the seasonal variation within any year and be prepared for an adverse run of seasons.
