Abstract
The pastoral areas of Western Australia occupy about 38%, (960,000 km2) of the State's land surface.Other agricultural pursuits occupy another 5% of the state, with some 57%, or 1,430, 000 km2 of the state used for other purposes. The vast majority of this vast area is vacant Crown Land in the desert areaswest of the South Australian / Western Australian border (Pink 1989).
