Abstract
The Esperance Downs Research Station (EDRS) is located on the south coast of Western Australia approximately 30 kilometres to the north of the Esperance townsite (Figure 1).Salinity was recognised as a problem at EDRS within a few years of it being cleared duringthe early 1950's. In 1991, approximately 39 % of the station was estimated to be affected by secondary salinity (McFarlane and Ryder 1990). At a meeting held in February 1990 it was decided that EDRS would be used to demonstrate and research methods of obtaining production from areas affected by salinity and waterlogging and a rehabilitation plan was begun. Monitoring of the land resource base includes groundwater and surface water monitoring, and annual ground based electromagnetic conductivity surveys.
