Abstract
While the duck industry in the Eastern States of Australia has used several breeds, Western Australia has until recently relied on the Muscovy. Most overseas countries with well developed meat duck industries have used the Muscovy only to a minor extent.
The Australian Pekin has been established in W.A. as an important meat breed since 1967/68, being suited to the production of large numbers of small carcass ducks throughout the year.
The Muscovy is still used for the large carcass trade, particularly at the Christmas and Easter seasons.
