Abstract
Results suggested that coarsely ground, rough hulled rice varieties were unsuitable for lot feeding because they led to occasional deaths, but that smooth hulled varieties had better prospects as ration bases. Although some animals vomited undigested rice hulls, and there was a high incidence of bloat and laminitis, rice-cottonseed rations were found to be efficiently used. Weight gains, corrected for the large build up of undigested rice hulls in the rumen, were slighly lower than gains of steers fed sorghum.
