Abstract
An experiment comparing feeds and feeding methods showed that feeding cereal hay on pen floors gave lighter carcases than feeding the same material in troughs. Feeds based on grain in most cases gave heavier carcases than hay fed on pen floors but not significantly heavier than from hay fed in troughs. Grain-based feeds would probably have performed better if they had been kept fully dry. Experimental data suggest grain-based feeds also reduced death-rate.
