Abstract
Insoluble granite grit fed to commercial broilers to 8 weeks of age did not affect growth or conversion when commercially prepared feed was used. When soluble shell grit was fed ad lib it resulted in a significantly lower feed conservation than with birds fed the insoluble grit. However, body weights at 8 weeks were not significantly different. More insoluble grit, the main gizzard constituent, was retained in the gizzard than soluble grit. Gizzard weights tended to increase when insoluble grit was fed.
