Cover: The salmon gum is perhaps the most attractive of the trees of the Western Austrlian agricultural areas, but it also has special significance to farmers, because since the early days of settlement they have used it as an indicator of first class agricultural soil. Much of the best wheat growing land of the agricultural areas was orginally salmon gum country.
The reason for the use of the particular picture of the salmon gums at Ambleside, near Bungulla, will be found on page 505.
