Abstract
In this paper the Recreational Netting Committee has addressed an extremely complex and controversial issue in a forthright manner. They have developed a set of management proposals which accommodates recreational netting while recognizing the concerns of non-netters and the general community. The Committee would like to stress that it considers this plan as a package. For example the Committee would be strongly opposed to the considerable operational restrictions contained under Section 5 if there were not a trade-off in terms of a fairer criteria for which estuaries are open as proposed in Section 6.2. Similarly, the Committee would not be prepared to accept netting in 6 more estuaries and then allow unattended netting, with its identified problems.
