Abstract
The performance of perennial grass pastures in small farm trials are formal grazing experiments over the past 25 years is reviewed. These trials were conducted in areas of annual rainfall ranging from 1 100 mm on the coastal plain to 550 mm in the Great Southern districts of Western Australia. With a clover base, some eight or nine selections from six grass genera showed sufficient persistence and vigour to increase animal production above that from annual pasture species particularly in autumn.
