Seasonal sulphate sulphur profile distribution
After gypsum treatments were applied the level of sulphate sulphur in the top 15 cm of soil increased with increasing rates of applied gypsum. Subsequently the levels declined in the top 15 cm but increased in the 15-30 and 30-60 cm horizons, suggesting that considerable vertical movement of sulphate sulphur takes place. The sulphate sulphur levels in the 0-15 cm horizon increased again during the subsequent summer probably as a result of mineralisation.
