Abstract

Greenough Sub-region

Moore River Sub-region

West Midlands Sub-region

Yarra Yarra Sub-region

The strategies and action plans contained in this document have been developed by members of the community, local industry and government agencies, representing the four sub-regions of the Northern Agricultural Region. Sub-regional strategy development has occurred due to community and agency recognition of the importance of protecting, enhancing and developing the region's valuable natural resource base.

Work began on this process with a two-day regional workshop in October 1996 and following this, numerous sub-regional meetings were held over a period of one year.

The summary of this planning work is contained in this document and groups involved in the process have looked at and recorded the following:

* a sub-regional vision of what they would like their sub-region to look and function like in the next 10-12 years;

* development of priority issues which will need to be addressed to reach the vision they have set for themselves;

* a series of key actions which need to be undertaken, linked to each of the priorities identified;

* tied to the actions listed are the organisations responsible for 'driving' the action, a timing for when the action needs to be carried out and the associated outcomes.

Natural resource management is an ongoing process, so the information contained in this document should therefore in no way be considered 'static', as sub-regional groups are still striving towards their vision for the future.

Please note that the Northern Agriculture Integrated Management Strategy, Regional Situation Statement contains information regarding the issues that have led to the development of many of the sub-regional strategies.
