Cover picture: This month’s cover features the LANOMETER, a new addition to the facilities of the Department of Agriculture fleece measurement laboratory. The lanometer accurately measures wool fibre diameter by projecting an image of the fibre onto a screen, where its diameter is measured on a scale. The lanometer will be used in wool research and to provide accuracy checks on the WIRO meter, which estimates fibre diameter by the airflow method and is in constant use in the Department’s flock testing service..
