Cover picture: The fierce-looking creature with the “eyes” is the caterpillar stage of Othreis materna , the fruit-sucking moth, pictured in defensive pose, with head turned under and tail up. The eye spots on the body are reputed to frighten away enemies. The fruit-sucking moth sucks the juice from fruit, particularly pawpaws, oranges and tomatoes, and is one of many pests featured in Department of Agriculture Bulletin 3423 “Insect Pests of Vegetables in the Ord River Irrigation Area.”
