Cover picture: This month’s cover picture is a dramatic illustration of the loss caused by erosion gullies. The bare gullies grow no pasture and in crop years still larger areas are lost to production. An example of severe water erosion in the wet winter of 1963 is seen on page 288 of this issue. “Build contour banks with a disc plough” (page 278) suggests a method of avoiding such losses.
