Abstract
The essence of good business management is planning, budgeting and financial control. This booklet is designed to help you use these business management techniques in your station business.
By concentrating on this aspect of the management of your station you can receive the best possible income permitted within the framework of wool and meat prices, cost structure and seasons.
The completed booklet will give you an inventory of your station resources and enable you to plan your production making best use of these resources.
Planning and budgeting within the station business are often dismissed as worthless. The reason given for this is that (unlike a non-agricultural business) it is impossible to forecast production and prices which wi 11 occur at the conclusion of planning periods.
This objection is not valid. It is not necessary to adhere to a budget for it to be useful. Comparison of the month by month budgeted and real cash flows signals any departure from the planned situation, and you may be able to take remedial action.
The budget gives you a control over your business that could not be achieved in any other fashion.
The use of any annual plan for your business will be useful in your dealings with stock firms and Banks. They will be more able to assess the ability of your business to use their assistance.
The booklet will be valuable in that it will show the real choices confronting you and your family in the future.
