Abstract
While grain yield increased significantly due to soil amelioration, the gap between the theoretical and actual yield potentials remains substantial in Western Australia (WA). Soil reengineering (building ideal soil profiles) might remove all interacting soil constraints and maximise uptake of subsoil water and nutrients. Therefore, true yield potential will be determined for various crops, soil types, and environments.
