Abstract
Substantial areas of agricultural land in Australia are under threat from salinisation due to salt remobilisation by rising groundwater. One approach to reduce salinisation involves manipulation of the catchment water balance by altering traditional cropping and pasture practices, or introducing new systems such as agroforestry to reduce groundwater accessions. Agriculture Western Australia identified a need for a water balance simulation tool that could be used to help land managers compare management options. A water balance calculator, named WAttle, has been developed.
