Abstract
The species of planthoppers included in this interactive key (see list) are those of most significance to agricultural activity in Australia either as resident pests or potential exotic incursions. Many other species occur in Australia and, although not directly affecting agriculture itself, may easily be confused with those included here. Care therefore needs to be taken in relying on use of this key for identification of economically important planthoppers. Confirmation of identifications, which usually requires dissection of the genitalia of male specimens, needs to be carried out by a specialist taxonomist.
