Abstract
The other day an enthusiastic gardener was complaining about the severe damage which snails are doing in her garden, and after discussing ways and means of preventing this destruction to her plants, I pointed out that once snails did not exist here but some time or other were brought in form overseas. In fact, the early records of the Agricultural Department show that about 40 years ago a few snails were noticed around Perth, and all inspectors of the Department- the whole 4 of them at the time - were ordered to report to St. Georges terrace each Saturday and spend the morning collecting snails in an endeavour to prevent them from spreading.
