Abstract
Controlled breeding is an important factor in successful stock-raising. It affords opportunities of increasing the sizes of flocks and herds without the risks attendant upon outside introductions. In enables the stockowner to improve the quality of his animals in successive generations, and is the source of saleable surpluses or animals to replace those culled for various reasons or lost through accident or disease.
